The Borneo Forestry Cooperative

The Borneo Forestry Cooperative was established in July 2010 by founding members Sabah Softwoods Berhad and Asian Forestry Company (Sabah) Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Boden & Associates

The BFC is a essentially a research cooperative formed with the following objectives:

  • to tacle critical challenges facing the plantation forest industry through structured and cooperative research
  • to provide redundancy and depth to all research work and established trials by duplication across company sites
  • to seek guidance from the worlds foremost experts in forest research for all work undertaken by the Cooperative
  • to train a new generation of technical foresters ready to make Sabah's plantation future a success

Primary areas of research undertaken by the BFC inculde:

  • Tree breeding
  • Solid Wood Quality Development and
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Nursery Practices

In 2012, Sabah Forest Industries also joined the BFC giving added depth to our research efforts. All members participate actively in trial establishment and measurement and technical workshops are held each year to improve our understanding and share our findings.
